The Best Place to View the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse is One of Oklahoma’s Best Kept Secrets

On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible in various parts of North America. As this happens, people will flock to different cities across the country in order to get the best view of the total eclipse. If you want to see the eclipse but don’t want to stay in an overcrowded city, we have the perfect place for you- Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

The eclipse will be visible from Broken Bow, Oklahoma on April 8th from about 12:30pm to 3pm, with a total eclipse occurring from 1:45 to 1:49pm. For almost five minutes, the sun will be completely covered by the moon, resulting in total darkness in the middle of the day. A total solar eclipse is relatively rare- although eclipses usually occur every few years, a total solar eclipse will only occur in the same area once every 300-400 years. Basically, this is a rare event that you’ll want to witness!

To prepare for the eclipse, we recommend getting a pair of solar viewing glasses to protect your eyes. Even though the sun will be covered by the moon, it will still only be safe to look at without eye protection during the five minute window where the sun is fully covered by the moon. If you want to take pictures of the eclipse, you’ll also need a solar filter for your phone.
