5 Ways to Unwind in Broken Bow, Oklahoma

How many times have you gone on vacation, only to come back and realize you’re more exhausted than you were before you left?

It’s easy to book a trip somewhere and fill your itinerary with so many thrills that you don’t get a chance to actually unwind. If you’re looking for all of the exhilarating, exciting things to do in Broken Bow… this is not the post for you. Check out some of our other blogs instead!

In this blog, we’ll talk about some things you can do to intentionally slow down, take a deep breath, and recharge on your trip to Broken Bow. If you’re tired of being tired, read on to hear our suggestions for a relaxing, rejuvenating trip!

1.) Unwind- Book a massage

What better way to unwind than with a massage? Not only does a massage give you a chance to relax, but a massage can actually have multiple health benefits, including boosted mood, chronic pain relief, increased flexibility, and more.

Whether you’re hanging out with your besties or on a romantic getaway, a massage is a great way for everyone to truly relax and unwind. Lucky for you, there are plenty of options for finding great massage therapists in Broken Bow that are ready to help you melt your worries away!

One of Broken Bow’s most popular massage therapists is A Servant’s Hands Massage Therapy. While this massage therapist is located in Smithville (about an hour away), they specialize in in-cabin massages specifically in Broken Bow. Visit their website to check out services they offer, as well as your options for add-ons!

If you’d prefer leaving the cabin for your massage, we recommend checking out Body Harmony Day Spa. You can find their Broken Bow location right in the heart of town, which makes it easy and convenient to access.

2.) Unwind- Go hiking

When you imagine going on a hike, you might imagine laborious, day-long treks up steep mountains and across rugged terrain. Thankfully, we’re here to tell you that hiking can be a lot more laid back!

In Beavers Bend State Park, there are many different trails that are the perfect length and difficulty level for those looking for a leisurely and scenic walk.

Our Favorite Simple Trails

If you’re looking for a relaxing hike, these trails all work great because of their relatively short lengths and simplicity:

    • Forest Heritage Tree Trail (1.2 mi): This trail begins and ends at the Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park. You can easily meander your way across streams and through trees, with a high likelihood of also seeing some wildlife.
    • Beaver Creek Trail (1 mi): You can access this trail from the Nature Center in Beavers Bend State Park. This trail is located along a stream, making it easy to follow.
    • Mountain Fork River Trail (2.6 mi): Because of how flat it is, this trail is extremely simple to hike. It also runs along the Mountain Fork River, which provides gorgeous scenery and ambiance for your hike.
  • Friends Trail (1.5 mi): This trail is one of the newer additions to Beavers Bend State Park. Like the name suggests, this trail is a great place to enjoy some quality time with some friends!
  • Cedar Bluff Nature Trail (1 mi): Although this trail goes up slightly in elevation, it is still a short trail and well worth the hike for some gorgeous views. This trail intersects with a few more challenging trails, so make sure you pay attention to avoid taking a longer hike than intended!

Things to Bring

Even if you’re planning on a pretty simple hike, you never know what might happen! It’s better to be over prepared than under. For your hike, we recommend bringing:

  • A light backpack
  • Water bottles
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray
  • Snacks

What you need for your hike is completely up to you, but we think that these things will ensure that you’re truly able to unwind and relax on your hike.

3.) Unwind- Chill at your cabin

When you stay at a luxury cabin, you don’t even have to leave your rental for a day of rejuvenation. Your cabin comes outfitted for all of the amenities you need for a slow, chill day!

Want to watch your favorite movies all day long from the couch? Lounge in the hot tub and let the jets wash your worries away? Cozy up around the fire and roast some marshmallows? Sit on the porch and just take in the sights and sounds of nature? Your cabin has you covered!

Spending a day in your cabin can be such a great experience that we wrote an entire blog about how to make your cabin night-in perfect. Check that blog out for more ideas!

4.) Unwind- Hang out on the lake

Sometimes, a trip out to the lake is all you need to energize your mind and refresh your spirits. Spend the day soaking up the sun

Boating

While spending a day out on the boat can be a high-thrills activity, it can also be a great time to enjoy the serenity of the lake! Simply sit back and relax and let the wind blow through your hair as you cruise. Bring something along to keep you entertained- such as a book or a deck of waterproof playing cards– or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of being out on the water.

You can hop into the lake for a quick swim, if you need a quick cool down! Remember to put on your life jacket first: while only persons under the age of 13 in the state of Oklahoma are required to wear a life jacket at all times, the National Safe Boating Council recommends that every person wear a life jacket to swim in the lake.

Fishing

Want to relax, but still need something to keep you occupied? Try your hand at fishing!

Broken Bow draws many people specifically for its great fishing scene. Don’t let that scare you, though– there’s plenty of fish that are easy even for beginners to catch, so you can cast your line even with little to no fishing experience.

For a successful day of fishing, there are a few simple steps you’ll need to take.

First, to fish in the state of Oklahoma, you’ll need a fishing license. These are easily obtained at most bait and tackle shops, but you can also purchase yours online.

Second, you need to make sure you have all of the right supplies. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a rod, a reel, fishing line, and bait. We also recommend wearing appropriate clothing and sun protection for optimal comfort.

If you’re still feeling unsure about your prospects if you go fishing alone, there are fishing charters in Broken Bow that are willing and able to teach you how to reel in the perfect catch. Some well-known fishing charters in the area include:

5.) Unwind- Pop Open a Bottle of Wine

For all of our 21 and over readers out there, Broken Bow has some fantastic wine that you absolutely have to try!

Your first stop for wine should absolutely be Girls Gone Wine. Started by three friends looking to bring some fun and excitement into Broken Bow, this spot is beloved by the community. Locals and visitors alike love the small-town, fun, inviting vibe of this winery. While Girls Gone Wine does not own their own vineyard, they do ferment and process all of their wine on-site. Head over with your favorite gals and either enjoy a tasting on site or grab a bottle to bring back to your cabin!

Another great winery for you to check out is Fish Tales Winery and Vineyard. Not only does this winery do free tastings, but they also have a bistro! Try a few of their wines to find one you love, take a seat, and share a bottle with a friend over a delicious charcuterie board, panini, salad, or more! While Fish Tales Winery and Vineyard does not have an online shop, they are more than happy to ship a bottle to your home for you to enjoy when you return from your vacation.
