Sometimes you want a little break from the everyday grind, but you don’t want to use up all of your vacation time and spend a ton of money on a vacation. In that case, it’s time to plan a weekend getaway to Broken Bow!Â
This scenic town offers everything you need for a refreshing break in just a couple of days. Home to Broken Bow Lake, the Mountain Fork River, and Beavers Bend State Park, this charming town is the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.Â
In this blog, we’ll help you create the perfect itinerary for a perfect weekend getaway in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We’ll go day by day and we will mention different activities you could do that would let you get the most out of your stay in just one weekend.Â
Friday Night
Friday will be the beginning of your weekend vacation, so the first thing you need to do is check in to your rental. We recommend booking your stay in a luxury cabin for the ultimate experience!Â
A luxury cabin combines the cozy comforts of a traditional log cabin with all the modern amenities you could ever need – and then some! This makes your rental more than just a place to crash at night; your cabin is a place to relax, unwind, and recharge before you head back to work on Monday.Â
After you check in to your cabin, it’s time for dinner! After spending hours in the car, you’ll probably want to go somewhere casual. Some of our casual dinner recommendations include Grateful Head Pizza Oven and Taproom, Lake Bums 259, and Buffalo Grill. These restaurants all have a fun, laid-back atmosphere so you can recharge after a day of driving.Â
Depending on where you’re coming from, you might be able to fit in an after-dinner activity! Broken Bow is only a few hours from a lot of major cities in Texas, Oklahoma, and other surrounding states making it the perfect weekend getaway:
- Dallas: 203 mi.Â
- Fort Worth: 237 mi.Â
- Oklahoma City: 261 mi.Â
- Tulsa: 212 mi.Â
- Texarkana: 89 mi.Â
- Little Rock, AR: 178 mi.Â
- Shreveport, LA: 163 mi.Â
With the drive being so short, you could leave for your trip right after work and get into town by 8pm! Better yet, you could take half a vacation day to give yourself more than enough time to fit in something fun at the end of the day.Â
If you do have time to do something after dinner, Broken Bow has tons of fun activities suitable for kids and adults alike. You could ride go karts at BigFoot Speedway, get lost in The Maze of Hochatown, or challenge your group to a friendly round of mini golf at Chili Dippers.Â
Even if you finish dinner a little late and everything is closed, no need to worry! Your cabin comes equipped with so much fun stuff that you could always just head back and watch movies, play games, or hang out in the hot tub!Â
Saturday
During any weekend trip, Saturday will be your fullest day. Since it will most likely be the only full day you get to spend in town, you’ll want to get as much out of the experience into your day as possible!Â
Lucky for you, Broken Bow is a fantastic place to visit whether you’re a thrill seeker or just looking to lounge. No matter your speed, Broken Bow has something for everybody to enjoy! We’ll offer some suggestions for activities to make sure you have the most fun Saturday possible in Broken Bow.Â
MorningÂ
Today is going to be a busy day, and you’ll want to make sure you have the energy to enjoy it all! We recommend that you start your morning by grabbing coffee and a quick breakfast at Hochatown Coffee Central. You can get coffee, tea, smoothies, and more to sip on, and you can choose from a variety of grab and go breakfast pastries for a quick breakfast.Â
If you need something a little more substantial, check out Hocharrrito’s Breakfast Burritos By the Lake! This food truck offers a variety of delicious breakfast items, from savory breakfast burritos to decadent French toast. We recommend getting a few different things to share between you and the people you’re traveling with, so you can try more of their menu!Â
After breakfast, it’s time to immerse yourself in the gorgeous sights and sounds of Broken Bow’s scenery. For the most scenic views in town, head to Beavers Bend State Park. There, you can take a hike on one of the park’s various trails, go on a picnic in the park, fish in the Mountain Fork River, or ride the river in a canoe or kayak. Make sure to bring along sunscreen and bug spray, and obtain a fishing license if you plan on fishing at the park. Otherwise, the park should have any equipment you need for the day available to rent!Â
Afternoon
Once you’re done with your morning activities, you’ll probably feel hungry and sleepy. For that reason, we recommend using Saturday afternoon as an opportunity to take advantage of your cabin’s amenities!
Before heading back to your cabin, you can grab lunch in town. Swing by one of the restaurants we mentioned in the Friday night portion of this blog, or check out Brick and Bread for soups, salads, sandwiches, and more! You could also order a charcuterie board from Two Board Girls to take back to your cabin and snack on throughout the afternoon.Â
Once you’re back at your cabin, it’s time to kick back and relax! After a long morning hiking, kayaking, or spending time on the lake, you’ll want to take some time to enjoy your cabin. There are all sorts of ways you could use this time. You could use this as an opportunity to watch a movie together, play board games, or chill in the hot tub.Â
Better yet, why not treat yourself and your crew to an in-cabin massage? A massage is the perfect way to relax your body and mind after a morning of adventure, and A Servant’s Hands Massage Therapy will come to your cabin for your services. Enjoy the luxury of a spa experience within the comfort of your cabin!Â
Evening
After a relaxing afternoon, it’s time to hit the town again! Despite Broken Bow’s small town feel, you’ll find no storage of fun things to do when the sun goes down.Â
First, you’ll want to start your evening with a delicious dinner! We recommend checking out Abendigo’s Patio and Grill for a casual but classy dining experience. This restaurant has been a Broken Bow staple for over twenty years for their atmosphere and commitment to excellence. Dine in their dining room, hang out on their patio, and grab a craft cocktail at their bar!Â
After dinner, keep the good vibes going by heading out to one of Broken Bow’s breweries! Mountain Fork Brewery is another classic spot in Broken Bow because they use water sourced from the Mountain Fork River for their beers. A newer brewery in town, Beavers Bend Brewery, boasts a two-story patio and frequent live music events. Either of these breweries would be a fantastic place to end the night over an ice cold beer!Â
Not a beer person? No worries! Grab a bottle of wine at Girls Gone Wine and bring it back to the cabin for a chill night-in by the fire pit.Â
SundayÂ
After two full days, Sunday is, unfortunately, your last day in town. Since you’ll be on the road later in the day, you’ll want to take it easy in the morning and afternoon while still experiencing more of town.Â
Make sure you check in with your rental property owners about proper check-out times and protocols. Every cabin will have different expectations for check-out, so make sure you communicate with your property owners.Â
Morning
Start off your morning with a delicious American-style breakfast at Shady Oaks Restaurant, another Broken Bow classic. Â
After breakfast would be a great time to participate in one of the activities we mentioned for Friday night that you didn’t get to try. If those activities don’t appeal to you for a Sunday morning, check out Beavers Bend Train Rides and Depot for a relaxing ride through scenic trails in town.Â
Afternoon
Once lunch time comes around, check out one of the many restaurants we mentioned earlier in this post that you didn’t get to try. Then, afterwards, you can shop around the main street of town for souvenirs at various souvenir shops, including The Cornbread Trading Company, Hochatime, and the shops at Local 259.Â
Once everyone has full bellies and a bag of souvenirs to remember the trip by… the time has come to head back home. Say your final goodbyes, make sure you have enough snacks for the car, and hit the road. We hope that you enjoyed your stay and feel refreshed, recharged, and ready to get back to work on Monday!Â
